On behalf of everyone involved with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure, we'd like to extend our sincere gratitude to the 350 participants, many volunteers, sponsors and donors who all made this year's event so successful.
Thanks to the generosity of Prince George and area residents, more than $80,000 was raised at the Run for the Cure, contributing to the $2.6 million raised in B.C. and $27 million raised across Canada. Funds raised in B.C. stay in B.C. to support breast cancer research, education and awareness programs.
Your support is making a difference. It is estimated one in nine Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Thanks to advances in research, treatment and awareness, the five year breast cancer survivor rate in B.C. is more than 91 per cent, the highest in Canada. We are getting closer to creating a future without breast cancer.
Thank you for your continued support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and the Run for the Cure. We look forward to seeing you next year on October 5, 2014 when we will ask once again, "who are you running for?"
