I am writing this in regards to our snow removal. Or lack of it I should say. I have been a resident of Prince George since 1984 and have never seen the roads in such horrible conditions. I have lived in Shelley, Salmon Valley and Pineview and now reside in the Hart off Chief Lake Road. I am a new home owner and live alone with a front-wheel drive vehicle.
Thank god for the gentleman that lives near me as he has been the one to keep our road from being totally unpassable. We have had our road plowed once by the City of Prince George all winter. As it stands there is no way we can pass each other as the road has not been properly plowed or widened.
I am a tax-paying citizen. I cannot believe mayor Green expects us to live with these conditions. I will not be voting for her again. I know the downtown core takes priority over residential streets, but think about it, how do we run a downtown core if the residents cannot reach it safely?
I am paid very well with my company and I can barely afford the taxes, and utilities that you, the council has deemed appropriate for these services to which you are supposed to provide. My house insurance has gone up by more than $100 this year. I cannot wait to see my utilities bill and property taxes bill for this year. I have been hearing people saying they are willing to pay more taxes for better snow removal. I refuse to pay more for something that is not being done properly in the first place. I will fight tooth and nail to keep you councillors and mayor from being able to do that. It is not the answer. Your motto has been cost effectiveness while maintaining a high level of service. Where is that level of service? I believe it is time to come up with better ideas, one being, contract it out.
Also when we have years that don't have as much snowfall, you should be making sure that the excess funds that are not used, are staying where they are, not being used for something else.
I am not very happy with the leadership of the mayor and councillors and wish to see improvement or you will not get voted in to speak for us little people in the future.
