A sincere thank you to Serena Black for her July 24th, 2010 Saturday report, "Stop in the name of love" looking at violence and abuse in relationships. The scope and content of the article was excellent. For all of us working on the front lines, your article highlighted many important points on relationship violence.

I wanted to make two points of clarification:

i)It is important to note that the majority of violent crimes in Canada

go unreported. For instance, the Statistics Canada Crime Victimization study (2004) found that 90% of all sexual assaults went unreported. In other words, the violent crimes that are reported are just the tip of the ice berg.

ii)Also, you stated in the article that, "...there are increasing reports

of stalking, harassment, and even date rape on (UNBC) campus." I wanted to be clear that I have definitely received reports of all the above; however, many of the incidents are reported to be happening off campus.

Thanks again for your astute reporting and I look forward to working with you and other media to keep the community of Prince George informed on issues relating to violence.

Sincerely,

Sarah Boyd-Noel, Coordinator,

Northern Women's Centre at UNBC
