Lower Mainland politicians are concerned about the transportation of dangerous goods through their communities as rail shipments increase exponentially. Citing the Lac Megantic disaster, these politicians ask the rail companies to divert their dangerous cargoes to other routes. The Federation of Canadian Municipalites have meeting after meeting about shipments of dangerous goods in cooperation with similar bodies in the U.S.
And on, and on it and around it goes.
Still nothing about examining alternatives to shipping these goods in their present forms to prevent a disaster occurring at all. Still basing 21st century transportation on technology from the 1800's, and we wonder why we still have oil spills and explosions? I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's time to find a cost effective and viable way to render these goods inert for shipping. It can be done and Canada can lead the way.
