As follow up to my previous letter, I am happy to report that recycling options are still available to those of us who reside in multi-family dwellings, condos and apartments.
I received a phone call from the Regional District and, regardless of what we have heard, this is actually what is happening:
1) The Transfer Stations are NOT being eliminated. The individual recycling bins located throughout the City at various locations will be removed.
2) Recyclable items can continue to be taken to the Transfer Stations; e.g. 18th & Quinn Street.
3) As of October 1, 2014, plastic bottles with numbers 1 to 7 will be recyclable at the Transfer Stations. Bottles must be clean with labels and lids removed.
4) Bottle recycling depots accept glass bottles. So when returning the pop/beer cans, we can take in glass bottles as well (clean, labels and lids removed.) No refunds, but we didn't pay a deposit on them.
