Racism comes in many forms

This is a letter to the lady I encountered at the Hadih House on Nov. 12. There was a discussion concerning open mics at certain establishments in town. I off-offhandedly made a comment that you didn't like, well boohoo to you.

I off-offhandedly made a comment that you didn't like, well boohoo to you. Have you ever heard of the freedom of expression? You said that I didn't know you and never would get to know you.

Well, I have news for you, I 've known you for 500 years.

Ever since the landing of Columbus on our shores, I have felt the muzzle of oppression from the white people on our people. Our elders were not allowed to speak their own languages and were punished when they did.

Have you taken the time to learn the local Carrier language? I didn't think so, but you can still stick your snooty nose in the air and say that you have an open mind. Racism comes in many forms, wheather it be muzzle the native, or not give him the jobs he's qualified for, but I will not stand back and have a white woman say that I don't know her and never will.

So where is your education to debate issues that you disagree with? I will await your swift and timely response.

Ted Morris,

Wet'suwet'en.
