Public inquiry into WorkSafeBC should be a given now. Scott McCloy's excuse of not having qualified accident investigators to investigate a serious accident in a pulp mill should be enough. I looking forward to seeing how Shirley Bond, the political protector of the worker, squirms her way out of this one, when the spokesman for WorkSakeBC admits that the people protecting us are not qualified to protect us.
Are the qualifications to be a WorkSafe inspector are so low that a three-day crash course in a pulp mill gives him the expertise to write orders to protect me in my workplace should scare the hell out of everybody.
Yes, they came to the mill on Monday and ordered temporary fixes. If they were not orders from WorkSafe's experts, it would have been removed as a safety hazard. I guess you can't expect much from experts that didn't know dust was explosive.
I guess the only time an accident is worth investigating is if the production stops. That is wrong, so very very wrong. We deserve better. I'm sorry but I can't help feeling disgusted with WorkSafe's arrogant and disrespectful attitude towards human life. It has to stop.
Remember the saying "If you only save one life it was all worth it". Well, now is the time for every worker, every union. Hell, even the companies should be demanding a public inquiry into how WorkSafe protects us before another mother has to tell the kids that daddy won't be coming home anymore.
