At 37 I am the proud owner of two beautiful blue heeler border collie cross brothers. Given that these are my first two dogs ever in my life I had no idea what I was getting into with a couple of heelers, but they keep me active and I could not be happier. They have helped me heal old wounds and helped me lead a healthier life. They are spoiled rotten.
I give them dog bones from Homesteader meats, the customer service is excellent, of course I could be jaded as I am in there at least once a week. My dogs love the bones, I even make them popsicle treats by filling an ice cream bucket full of water and treats and freezing it for hot summer days. I take them everywhere with me, and they love car rides. In fact they chew the heck out of anything in sight if left behind.
So I have to say I was a little more than shocked when I stopped at the book store on my way to Moore's Meadow to walk my dogs and not one, but two ladies came up to me to tell me it was hot and my dogs were in the car. First let me say three out of 4 of my windows were wide open.....all the way down open. No dog in their right mind would sit in a car and die when there is a way out....and two, my dogs would tear up the car, jump out the window and wait for me by the car to give them a ride home. I wasn't lying when I said they had only been in there 5 minutes...any longer and they would let me know it was too long believe me.
I understand that 6 dogs died needlessly in a heated vehicle, not a car with three windows wide open but a canopy of a truck where the couldn't get out if they wanted to. And Chance has border collie fur so he's hot all the time, he lays in the snow in the winter, and he did not appreciate your "droopy" comment.
But if you are worried about my dogs dying inside my little ford fiesta instead of jumping out the window to save their own hides they are super friendly, put you hand in, pet them and keep them company.
I'll be back in 5.
