Protest leads to phone calls

I would like to thank all of the individuals who came out to support the protest that was held on Friday night in response to the recent proposed cuts to education and the impending closure of 14 schools in our district. I would also like to thank all those who showed their support and respect for the torch bearer and the Olympic entourage. As a group, we sang O Canada and cheered the individuals on as they passed us by. Which brings me to the point of my letter. On Saturday night a misinformed individual called me three times after midnight and began to curse me by using profane language because he believed that I had actually been protesting the Olympics and Torch Relay. I would like to let this individual know that had he read the papers, listened to the radio, watched both our local news and Global BC TV he would have known exactly what we were about. He may also have known what we were doing had he actually been anywhere near us in front of the school board office. I find it highly rude and inappropriate that someone would choose to be so disrespectful and narrow-minded as to harrass someone when he does not have all the facts. I want this individual to know that even though he tried to block his number it was traced and he will be dealing with the police. Maybe next time this person will get all the facts before deciding whether or not he's going to judge someone unfairly. It is unfortunate that this person feels more strongly about all the showiness of the Olympics and the Torch Relay than about the thousands of B.C. children who are losing their schools, programs and funding on a daily basis, but that is why there are people like me and my counterparts who feel so strongly about our children and their education to fight for them.
