PM should pay for extras

The taxpayers of this country treat our politicians pretty darn good.

They are provided with numerous flights, and not just between Ottawa and their home riding, but also trips abroad.

When they are in Ottawa sitting in Parliament they receive a daily per diem.

We also subsidize their Parliamentary Dinning Room privileges.

Mrs. S. Gregoire Trudeau's request for extra staff makes me feel uncomfortable given the way we treat our prime ministers.

We provide the prime minister and his family with free lodging for four years, free utilities, free meals, housekeepers, chef, travel to destinations you and I can never afford to go to, driver and limo service, two nannies, and a conveyance person for the spouse. Prime Minister Trudeau also receives a very handsome salary.

Mrs. Trudeau has requested for more conveyance staff. I'm reminded by the phrase that I've heard many times in the last 40 years - do more with less.

Maybe it's time to give the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition budgets to run these households and if more is wanted they're going have to dig in their pockets for the extras.
