I was very saddened to read in the Dec. 4 paper that our city council in its wisdom wants to sell the Pine Valley Golf Course.
I am a retired senior. It always has been great to go out , get a round in about two and a half hours and then get on with my busy life. We old people have lots to do!
When I have been out at good old Pine Valley I am with my friends and see others of my vintage getting their exercise. We have to keep moving we are told. We will also miss the camaraderie we have when doing our rounds and they say interacting with others is good for mental health.
I have also seen many students out with their schools learning the fine game of golf. I have seen parents and grandparents with their little children having family time away from their phones, computers etc. Where will they go now?
I am a golf coach for Special Olympics. Pine Valley is a wonderful place for these athletes to improve their skills. Its location is easy for everyone to play and to get to. The closure of Pine Valley will undoubtedly mean the demise of this program in Prince George. We have athletes who have attended national games and have qualified to golf at provincial games next July in Langley. What a shame it will be if they have to lose this sport.
I live in the bowl area and there are always complaints about the air quality in this part of Prince George. More blocks of cement certainly aren't going to help improve this situation and what will happen to the trees that many of us had planted in memory of loves ones?
My ballot in the next civic election will probably will only have one "X" on it and it will be for Brian Skakun. Thank you, Brian for being a concerned member of the council.
