PGSS hosting 50-55th year reunion for classes of 1960-65

My column today is quite different than my usual column about people; today the column is about an event and specifically about the Prince George senior secondary school (PGSS) 50 - 55th Year Reunion.

My column today is quite different than my usual column about people; today the column is about an event and specifically about the Prince George senior secondary school (PGSS) 50 - 55th Year Reunion.

Neila Ollinger, a PGSS 50 Year School Reunion Committee member has submitted the following write up and all the details about the upcoming September 2015 event. Neila and I felt that the Seniors' Scene column reaches out to many that would be interested in attending this event so here is her write up:

PGSS 50 Year Reunion 2015

My fellow students of PGSS (during the years 1960-1965), we will be meeting at the Inn of the North on Sept. 18-19 to celebrate our 50-55th year reunion.

This is big.

Do you remember? In the beginning, our reunions were every ten years. We were busy during those years so we didn't have a lot of time to be out celebrating.

However, now that we have more time on our hands, we feel that we need more '60s style parties.

We also realized the hard facts that our numbers are becoming less and less and we now need to celebrate every five years.

We'll miss those who are no longer with us.

Behind a great party is a dedicated committee and that is exactly how this reunion is happening.

We have a wonderful group of 12 men and women who make things happen. We have been working together since October 2014.

Our variety of skills and abilities make everything possible. As a committee, we balance the books, collect entry fees, decorate tables, work with computers, send emails, liaison with business people, hook up electronics, craft name tags, create posters, phone people and set up word-of-mouth networks.

To get the message out, we are using a web site, the radio, word of mouth, Facebook, the phone and the Seniors' Scene column.

We also know a lot of people who know a lot of other people and together, we are determined to make this reunion an unforgettable celebration.

Do you remember the first reunion? That was the ten year reunion. Did you feel like me?

Stressed!

Wondering what happened to everyone; wondering if we would measure up. How about that party we had on our 20th year?

Most of us were up all night.

Those were the days, my friends.

No one asked or really cared what each of us was doing or where each was going. Just to be there was important and that made us all feel pretty good (safe).

It was a great time.

And then came the 30th or was it the 40th?

I felt "Oh, well, it is what it is."

It was a really wonderful time visiting and having great conversations with my fellow students.

The 45th year reunion was at the Inn of the North and as usual the Friday night was a great time to visit (and drink).

Saturday night was too, but included a wonderful dinner meal.

No more all night parties but a really enjoyable time.

Now, what will the 50th reunion bring?

Word is that people will be attending from all over Canada and from as far away as Australia; and of course, from Prince George.

Friday night is for the visiting, Saturday is for the lunch and Saturday night is your free time.

This reunion should not be stressful nor should it be an all-night party; but it could be.

However, I think we can all say, "Well done! We are alive and kicking. We can still have fun especially with the people with whom we have so much in common."

Now that we have a membership in the blue hair group, we can be just us, just ourselves.

No one should dare call us old as we do not consider ourselves old.

Well, not old as we remember it.

We can kick up our heels and we still know how to have fun, so see you there.

Deadline for registration is

Sept. 1, 2015. Please register online at: www.pgss2015reunion.com.

Which year did you attend PGSS? Do you remember:

1960: The students' Last Will and Testament... seems 'attendance' was the problem.

1961: Arm wrestling. Someone blasted the class with a running hose? School invasions to Dawson Creek.

1962: Who said, "I didn't mean to blow up the chem lab?"

Connaught school burning. The day the art room was painted red.

The cheerleaders annual party. Lil Dot, the '49 Prefect often late for school but seen at the Silver Spike.

1963: The case of the spilled hydrochloric acid in the physics lab. Remember those high hair dos. And the Beetles cut.

1964: The sponge incident.

The many unsuccessful attempts to steal Cariboo's cow bell.

Remember when we had Queen Aurora?

1965: Dorm life. Cabbage soup. Segregation, with girls not allowed to eat with boys. Midnight pillow fights. The Big Trek.

So attend The PGSS 50th Reunion 2015 by registering before Sept. 1, 2015
