I find it very hard to find affordable rentals here in P.G. I'm a single mom on limited income. BC Housing, E. Fry, Metis housing, Mennonite Society etc. won't help me because I have pets - three very small Chihuahuas (one is blind) and two cats. I don't think its right when you can get housing if you have addictions but no pets or 1 pet rule.
I have one son, he is 12. We are living in my parents RV camper in their driveway. We eat and shower etc in moms trailer. I struggle with depression. I'm dealing with things as they come.
I contacted AWAC as well as ASAP and Salvation Army. They tried to help me but got nothing. My pets help me deal with life. They love me and they make my son and I happy. I don't drink, smoke , or do drugs but I can't for the life of me find a safe comfy affordable home up in the Hart. Go figure.
People say give your pets up. Re-home them or put them in foster care temporarily. That's like saying to me 'hey give your son up.' These pets are our family!. Why would I give up my animals. I guess its easier for societies to deal with people who drink and do drugs, then trash their houses than have a long-term tenant with pets?
The MLA office said they can't help. But offered me info I already had and did.
I sure can't afford $1,200 for a basement suite or $800 for a small suite.
It's hard because I'm raising my son with no help from my ex or his family.
My parents help me.
I try to do the best I can for my son while I try to get myself better. I'm grateful for at least having a roof over our heads, warmth and food.
But what I'd like to know is how or what route do I go after exhausting all options?
