My mother once taught me a little pearl of wisdom and I shall pass it onto Todd Whitcombe. Don't speak of that which you know nothing of.
Mr. Whitcombe admits he doesn't own a firearm and never will. His article is evidence that the registry is not a subject he should tackle. How so, you ask?
Firstly he confuses licensing and registration - a popular anti-gun tactic. Licensing is the process whereby applicants are vetted by the RCMP by means of criminal history checks, previous sexual partner checks, spousal consent etc.
The registry is simply that - a list of serial numbers.
Secondly driver's licences, dog licences, marriage licences, etc, fall under regulatory law, whereas firearms fall under criminal law.
When one's driver's licence expires and the RCMP confiscate one's car is the day that comparisons between driver's licences and firearms licences can be made. Not before.
