Pay attention, driver

This is a letter to a young lady who almost caused a very serious accident at the corner of Foothills and 15th Avenue. You were driving a light coloured small car and the young man in the passenger seat had dark hair and wore glasses.

This is a letter to a young lady who almost caused a very serious accident at the corner of Foothills and 15th Avenue. You were driving a light coloured small car and the young man in the passenger seat had dark hair and wore glasses.

At approximately 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, my husband and I were driving down 15th Avenue. We had a green light as we approached Foothills and we saw your car come to a stop at the red light on Foothills. As we had the green light, we proceeded through the intersection when, much to our horror, you pulled out in front of us. You couldn't have looked to your left or you would have seen us.

I don't know how we managed to slow down and not plow into the back of your car. We couldn't have missed hitting you by more than a few inches. You turned into the inside lane and made a left hand turn on to Tabor Boulevard, blissfully unaware of the damage you could have caused.

If you recognize yourself from this letter, I would suggest that you memorize the following and repeat it as your mantra every time you stop at a red light.

It is permissible to make a right hand turn on a red light but only if it is safe to do so.

To determine whether it is safe to do so, you have to actually look to your left. You will be doing yourself and the rest of the public a very big favour.
