Opportunity knocks

What an opportunity P.G. has to create a public, multi-sport facility. The current P.G. Golf & Curling Club could be converted into a very useful sporting complex.

What an opportunity P.G. has to create a public, multi-sport facility. The current P.G. Golf & Curling Club could be converted into a very useful sporting complex. Imagine curling, tennis (indoor and outdoor), badminton, racquetball and squash, all in the same area.

Indoor soccer, ball hockey, martial arts and boxing (from the Roll-a-Dome) might also be included. Parents and their youngsters could go to one location for a variety of activities rather than driving to and from several venues. The existing facility could be upgraded with a little creativity and the assistance of the various existing interested parties (P.G. Tennis Club, PGRC & NC Badminton, B.C. Indoor Soccer, P.G. Ball Hockey Society and boxing/martial arts organizations and the city). Sure, times are tough, but with the pending sale of the golf course and development of the surrounding Pine Centre neighborhood, what better time to pursue creating a central facility for such a variety of users?

There could be spectator areas for everyday activities as well as featured events. Instead of each organization relying on their current overworked volunteer executive- members, all sporting groups could share a common administration. The curling clubhouse already has curling sheets, racquetball/squash courts along with washrooms, change rooms, meeting rooms, administration office area and lots of parking. Hmmm, I'm just saying ... let's do it!
