Opinion: Peaceful past a Middle East myth

Lifta was a Palestinian Arab village on the outskirts of Jerusalem. The population was driven out during the Arab-Jewish hostilities of 1947/48 and the efforts to relieve the Siege of Jerusalem (1948). The village, which is mainly intact, is located on a hillside between the western entrance to Jerusalem and the Romema neighbourhood. Some 55 original stone houses are still standing but the village has never been repopulated.

It is a myth that Jews, Christians and Muslims lived peacefully side by side in the pre-Israel Middle East.

In August 1929, 19 years before Israel was established, the Arabs in Hebron committed a monstrous crime against the Jewish people not to be exceeded until the Nazis' Final Solution.

Considering the amount of rage expressed by 2023 Palestinians, does anybody think that if Israel were weak and disarmed that this couldn't happen again?
