Opinion: Northwest B.C. needs to be respected by Ottawa and Victoria

"All I have seen the past eight years is a lot of disrespect from Ottawa and Victoria."

The recent open letter to the Office of the Wet'suwet'en Hereditary Chiefs has one very interesting quote: "The residents of northern BC need to live with the type of people attracted to the employment."

The residents of northern B.C. also do not need to live with violent, aggressive and sneaky (dress up in camouflage while attacking pipeline worker job sites). The type of people that are attracted to northwest B.C. to create mayhem are not welcome.

I am disgusted with PM Justin Trudeau's stand back and do very little to address major incidents of vandalism, destruction of property and intimidation of workers.

Watching this mayhem in my backyard has been disgusting. It is no wonder that the Freedom Convoy originated in Prince Rupert and headed east to Ottawa. Ottawa is not only out of touch with reality but it is also highly disregarded in northwest B.C. I will reference a previous letter that I wrote to the Prince George Citizen during the last election. Trudeau showed incredible disdain for northwest B.C. when he appointed a parachute candidate to run in Skeena-Bulkley Valley from the Lower Mainland of B.C.

In one and only one short visit to the riding during the last election, this Liberal candidate spoke up about the shortage of veterinarians in Skeena-Bulkley Valley. A healthy northwest B.C. community at large does need more veterinarians, but it also needs more human doctors and nurses. This so-called Liberal candidate should have stated that northern B.C. is not just a cash cow for Quebec and the Lower Mainland but deserves proper medical facilities in the north.

If Trudeau survives as PM for the next election, I hope that he will at least find a local and respectful candidate to address the many failings of government in northwest B.C.

Northwest B.C. hurts despite the huge resource wealth and highly taxed resource sector payroll taxes that the letter writer seems to have a problem with. Northwest B.C. needs to heal and be respected by Ottawa and Victoria. All I have seen the past eight years is a lot of disrespect from Ottawa and Victoria.
