A letter to the editor from a Prince George Citizen reader.
Regarding the anti-racism forum held recently, I was horrified and deeply angered to see the Citizen fail to address a form of racism that it either fails to recognize, or intentionally disregards, and that's familial racism.
That’s a racism that’s actually promoted and entrenched by the concept of multiculturalism. For I, like hundreds of millions of others, am not of one nationality/ancestry/culture, but am of several. Therefore I am not multicultural, I am multiracial.
100 years ago, there were primarily two types of multiracial (aka: interracial): children in North America, those from Caucasians interbreeding with First Nations and Latinos (called half-breeds); or Caucasians/First Nations/Latinos interbreeding with African Americans (called mulattos). Today there are all kinds of interracials, such as Eurasians, Eurafricans, Half-Caste and so many more, each with its own racist moniker. So, one needs to ask, if governments sincerely care about ending racism, why aren't they making any efforts to they encourage the acceptance and celebration of multiracial persons?
I ask because I grew up a victim of said racism in my own home and from my own family members, listening to one side of the family put down the other, with both sides self-righteously ignorant of the damage they caused a child who's both. And sadly, it happens all the time. For example: children who hear their black side of the family put down the Asian side of their family and the Asian side put down the black side of the family, or hear their white side of the family put down the indigenous side of their family as the indigenous side puts down the white.
Hello! Children have been and are being emotionally torn apart by the familial racism that they’re subjected to, ironically by those who claim to love and care for them and no one is doing a thing about it. Families who publicly claim to deplore racism are in complete hypocritic denial of the terrible things they're doing to their own families and not one media outlet in the entire nation even has the brass to defend the emotionally abused and socially segregated children.
The world that our grandparents once knew has passed, and it’s time to finally put racism to rest. People need to realize that the ‘Christian white man’ that they think they’re talking to today may actually be of two or more ancestries, a practicing Muslim, and a recent immigrant. It’s time for society to acknowledge, accept and celebrate its multiracial children. We’re not freaks, genetic mutants or social embarrassments. We're living, loving human beings. We aren’t less than others, we are more, for we combine genetic strains. We are literally evolution staring humanity in the face and we make no apologies. In fact, we should be apologized to for all of the rude and racist remarks that we’ve so long endured.
We, the multiracials, are the future of humanity and we’re telling the world that it’s time to end its social profanity and racist insanity. Society needs to recognize, accept, and respect the merging of the world’s races and cultures, not ignore them or even worse, treat them as some form of racial deformity. For never in human history has it been more clear that we are all just one race – the human race. So please, grow a pair and start doing something with the Citizen that brings people together, instead of using it to rip them apart.
