Olympics a waste of money

As I watch and witness all the latest hype around the Olympics I find it hard to comprehend such waste considering the economic plight our province is in.

As I watch and witness all the latest hype around the Olympics I find it hard to comprehend such waste considering the economic plight our province is in. And so last night it gave me this idea for apolitical cartoon; I would have drawn it if I could muster more together than stick-people, so I will try to describe it instead. It goes like this:

VANOC is this obese pig and she (as you will see why later) is standing near this trough (representing our tax dollars) gorging its' self in this seemingly bottomless well of money, because VANOC has an insatiable and never-ending need for our money. Then there are all the little VANOC piglets (hence the she) some with the letters OTR on their sides wandering aimlessly (representing the tour through the province) while the others are just feeding off the greedy gluttonous VANOC sow.

Indeed it is a sad commentary when we here in Prince George are faced with the potential closure of a dozen plus school and other countless public service cut still yet to come that the OTR piglets come to town with their little piglet bodies all clad in Olympic gear, bellies bloated on our tax dollars, all the while waving the torch in the air like they just don't care. So if you missed the Olympic Torch Run event, and cannot afford to partake in any of the Olympic events, don't worry you still get to participate in the Olympic legacy through paying the bill for years to come.

I am sure I am not alone in thinking that the Olympics achievements of these athletes and all their hard work and years of dedication is second to how much money can and is being gorged on by the Olympic Committee pigs (in our case VANOC) and their piglets at the trough of the taxpayers. I truly feel sorry for the next city that gets sucked into hosting a future Olympics.
