To: Royal Canadian Legion 43 Members
On Sunday June 29th my four-year-old daughter and I went to the Railway Museum. We didn't realize until we showed up that the Legion was putting on an event, but when we arrived we learned that our visit would be free. We had a blast checking out the trains and displays as well as enjoying the activities the Legion put together. We really appreciated what the Legion had done and had a great time overall.
I say overall, because I also want to apologize to your members for the way you were treated. When my daughter and I were waiting in line to ride the train, we learned that the train had been reserved for Legion members to ride at 2 p.m. My daughter and I were okay with this, but not everyone was. A woman with two children in tow caused a loud and rather nasty scene, angrily complaining about having to wait any longer and berating Legion members. As a result, a group of senior citizens who had clearly stated they were with the Legion ended up getting off the train they were already seated on and allowing this woman to have the immediate ride she demanded. She continued to criticize Legion members and the museum for most of the train ride.
Those members could have engaged her in an argument but they chose the classier route and stopped the spectacle that my daughter had been witnessing. No one deserves to be treated that way, and certainly not people who had just given her an afternoon's free entertainment and the free train tickets. I was disgusted by this woman's behaviour, and it did not reflect the feelings of so many other families enjoying the afternoon at the museum. I hope that her bad attitude doesn't impact your decision to host future events, because it was appreciated by this family in particular. Thank you again, for everything.
