One has to really question the city's decision making in respect to three questionable situations that have arisen.
First, we go back to the non-development near the library. What is to be done about this hotel boondoggle?
It is a complete eyesore, it has ruined access to the library and it has taken a very useable street out of commission.
Next we have the refusal to allow the Wilson Square Market to operate at Wilson Square. The atmosphere that was created on George street, having the two markets bookend it, was nothing short of miraculous for downtown, with all sorts of people walking to and fro on a Saturday morning.
It was delightful and I am sure the downtown merchants will attest to this. Now we will be left with a derelict corner. What on earth was the city thinking? Was it because it didn't go according to their plan?
Yet at the same time across town on Otway road we have a situation where the city wants to forgo their plan and change the OCP to light industrial zoning. Light industry does not interface with the user groups of that road, including those who go to ski in the winter or ride bikes in the summer. As well, the nordic ski facility is trying to position itself as a national and international ski destination.
So what is going on at city hall? Hello, let's have a plan.
