Our government is not funding our public school system appropriately.
Next year children who test out as mildly intellectually handicapped will receive NO funding!
They used to receive $8,000 then it was cut to $4,000 and now it will be nothing. These children can learn, but they need many hours of repeated practice with one on one attention.
Once taught a new concept, they need to work with it again and again and again with someone to guide them step by step. You cannot provide this in a classroom.
Our society is going to pay for citizens who are not functionally literate one way or another. I have seen the power of early intervention and would like to see our government put money into our youngest citizens and help them become competent and contributing members of society. Please contact your MLA if you agree. Our children need us now!
