We are writing in response to the editorial in last Friday's Prince George Citizen and to numerous reports in the media generally which imply that the UNBC faculty members are united in their opposition to the appointment of James Moore as the chancellor of UNBC.
This is not true.
Despite the misgivings of some of our colleagues, we feel that James Moore is more than qualified to take on the role of chancellor at UNBC.
It is important to remember that he made the decision to come to UNBC as a young undergraduate from Vancouver in the very early years of its existence, when it was a new and untested university.
As a student, he made an important contribution to the development of the university and then went on to serve his country at the highest level.
As an alumnus of UNBC, he understands the university, its mandate and its culture. He is a well-respected (across party lines) former parliamentarian and minister who will bring vision, passion and energy to the position of chancellor.
We look forward to working with him to build on the success that our university has achieved in the first 25 years of its history.
