The headline in Monday's editorial, June 3 reads "Heads they lose, tails they lose", dealing with the surprise announcement by Christy Clark's newly elected government that they now are against the Gateway pipeline project.
What is the big issue with this pipeline? We already have a multitude of pipelines crossing mountains and streams safly delivering oil and gas. Now we have a proposal for Gateway with more stringent safety measures and heavier steel than some older pipelines, yet the opposition to it borders on the fanatical, with a string of environmental groups collecting donations and advocating against it by falsehood, and any means.
Last year I listened to Patrick Wore speak in Prince George. He was the founder of Greenpeace, and did much to save the blue whale and other whales from extinction.
He told us how he had to leave Greenpeace because of it's corruption, preaching falsehood, and propaganda against industry. He fully endorsed the Gateway project, as there was no reason to believe it would cause any damage to the environment.
In B.C we need a common-sense revolution to counter environmentalist propaganda and lies. Canada is one country and B.C should not be asking for Fort McMurray profits because of the pipeline. Locomotives spew black smoke into the Albertan air hauling our lumber to market. Should B.C lumber men have to hand over part of their profit for this?
Cross country checkup Sunday June 9 came from Inuvik. It was interesting to hear what the people from that area had to say. It is the only area of Canada that is losing population.
The trapping business was destroyed by Greenpeace and outside influence stopped pipeline and drilling activity. They would like that project to go ahead now, but economics no longer favours it.
Young people move south to find a job after they receive an education. Propane to heat their homes is trucked in from Edmonton, while there is a gas field nearby.
Pipelines in B. C must go ahead. They will bring jobs and prosperity to our province and from this taxes to help pay for roads, healthcare, education, etc. To counter the loud noises of special interest groups I believe we need referenda on this issue.
It might be time to start to collect signatures.
