I am against removing the No. 1 Fire Hall and the swimming pool and replacing them for $50 million.
This very large amount would be spent when with some alterations to the pool, such as a new roof and wheelchair access also, it would be fine.
As for the fire hall, it needs a bigger board room that won't be too cramped when there is an emergency to discuss with the other agencies' personnel.
Both the fire hall in question and the pool are still in good condition and can continue to be used.
I suggest we carry on using them and also make some improvements to them and save the high cost of replacing them. This could make a huge difference to what we can afford.
Maybe we can afford a swimming pool on the Hart and another one out in College Heights for children who need to learn to swim, if we forget about building a performing arts theatre right across the road from city hall.
This would cost us as much as the cost of the building like the RCMP building, which we cannot afford.
All these schemes are going to impoverish us, so let's forget about dreaming for what we don't need and can do without.
I am against city hall borrowing funds to remove and replace the No. 1 Fire Hall and Four Seasons pool.
