It seems to me that drug abuse is a self-induced problem. Except for a very few, most individuals were born clean.
They key to stopping drug abuse is education at a very young age. This would include vigilance on the part of some of the so-called parents. It is incredible that a mother will sit and cry over her drug-addicted child and try to blame the problem on someone else.
With the plethora of drugs out there, it is no wonder there is ample room for a misguided individual to get into trouble. Legalizing all illicit drugs is not the answer.
More control and responsibility for the movement of all drugs legal or otherwise, is needed. There should be no treatment for a self-inflicted addiction.
The old saying "you made your own bed, sleep in it!" should apply.
If you think this is unsympathetic, you're right.
Why should our resources go to treat these so-called ill people when they have no intention of maintaining a healthy lifestyle?
We see on the news of all the deaths from overdoses and consuming drugs of questionable character. It's hard to believe anybody could be that stupid and ignorant. If you want a high and a thrill, go jump off a bridge. The end result is the same and you come down a lot faster.
It gets a little tiresome to listen to the whining of those affected by drug abuse when it could be avoided in the first place.
Most abusers are enabled by those around them by complicity, supplying, negligence and an attitude that it's not their problem. Tolerating this kind of behavior is getting us nowhere.
I know this will never happen, but all addicts should be placed in a treatment centre for which there is no release until clean. Oh yeah, treatment would be cold turkey.
Backsliders should be incarcerated in remote facilities for an indeterminate amount of time. If you think this sounds rough, these so-called sick people are turning our society into a prison from which there is no escape. Tolerating these individuals in store-fronts, bank entrances, and any other public venue makes me wonder where we'll be in a few years if drastic action is not taken.
