While I might understand opposition to proposals for a performing arts centre, the opposition to building a new RCMP detachment is much less clear to me.
Obviously, this is an essential service to Prince George. I believe that one's work environment has the potential to impact significantly one's morale. Do we want to risk our civil servants and RCMP officers harbouring resentment or low morale as a result of poor working conditions? Of course not.
Like those who work in hospitals, these people also require an excellent base from which to do essential work.
Furthermore, cell safety and hygiene is also important. For example, it could be your daughter or son spending a night in there after a hard night at the bar.
Finally, there is no confidentiality for those inquiring at the front desk about various sensitive issues.
Thus, rather than pushing this proposal away, let's push for a new detachment that is well-planned, long-lasting and well within budget.
