I watched with interest the discussion on medical marijuana and while the councillors brought forth a number of valid concerns it appeared to me one major issue was overlooked. My question is how much marijuana needs to be grown to satisfy the needs of the greater Prince George area? Once the figure is known and factoring in that this will be a growth industry, pardon the pun, then how many facilities and what size do we need?
Further to this, what is the process once a doctor has prescribed the marijuana? How is it accessed and distributed as this would also have an impact on any decision. Is it necessary for every regional district and every city to have a facility? How is the pricing and marketing controlled? Is this a free market situation that will lead to over production? I realize the government dropped this in local government laps but I don't figure a valid decision can be made until these factors are looked at.
