Economists think the HST is the greatest thing since mom's apple pie. I have a different opinion. I call it "help the south tax." There has been a sharp increase to the U.S. from citizens of Canada who live close to the border, since the enactment of the carbon tax. In order to save money, people were buying their fuel for their vehiclesthere. They have also bought things like tires to avoid paying the environmental, provincial, and general service tax that are applicable here.
With the merger of the provincial and goods and services tax we will see more people doing their purchasing south of the 49th. I ask the taxpayers of this area,where will a lot of the money come from to help put a new roof on B.C. Place, or provide funds for the operation of the Trade and Convention Centre not to mention the day-to-day running of government.
I am supporting the "Axe the Tax" campaign and I hope many citizens of the Central Interior support it also.
