I have been following the dispute against the Haldi Women's Treatment Centre. I also disagree with anyone selfish enough to balk this potentially life altering or even life saving institution. I, myself am a recovering addict, thanks to a place like the one proposed at the Haldi Road elementary school.
Addiction is so much more complicated than people think. Perhaps Ms. Sevin and her petitioners should gain some education on the topic before sticking their noses in the air. What if addiction affected their families? What if one of their daughters suffered from the disease?
The majority of addicts "want" out of the lifestyle, however need help to do so. Addiction often stems from painful, hurtful and traumatic issues as far back as early childhood. Issues kept hidden, deep inside that need to be dealt with through "skills" taught in treatment. Without the skills and support recovery is not possible.
P.G. has severe addiction problems. The majority of crimes committed are a result of addiction. I've dealt with a lot of addicts in recovery and in addiction. May are beautiful people with many qualities, big hearts, caring and giving, loving people.
I see many positives from the proposed institution. Jobs provided, the empty school put to good use, knowledge offered to women to change their lives and families affected. Lived may be saved.
In my opinion, we need more facilities like these. I pray those opposed change your thoughts to the positive. I believe Winston Churchill said, "Minds are like parachutes, they don't work unless they are opened. "
God Bless you All,
