Lorna Waghorn-Kidd recently criticized our MLAs and MPs in a letter that asked 'where's my MLA/MP?' Your readers may wish to note that Ms. Waghorn-Kidd is a member of the local NDP brass, so there may be just a smidge of bias in her views.
MLAs Bond and Morris regularly attend many community events, and go to great efforts to support worthy causes across the spectrum. MP Zimmer has been most helpful in ensuring that our communities have as much access to resource development opportunities as possible, and many residents will tell you of the help they have received from MP Harris' office to iron out a wrinkle with Ottawa. As most of this NDP organizer's criticism was towards Shirley Bond, I would note that the Citizen article about the literacy program cuts also highlighted Minister Bond's ongoing support for literacy. Sometimes government changes hurt a cause that a local representative supports, but that does not mean that the leader is ineffective on the whole.
Where is my MLA / MP? She and he are trying to ensure that our region has as much opportunity as we can develop sustainably, that our governments live within their means, and that people who face change do so in a setting that offers them the most options possible. In my view, they are right where they should be.
And unlike my NDP counterpart, I have no qualms about openly stating to your readership that this is the view of someone who is politically active.
