Masich Place Stadium should keep original features

This is in response to the City's plans for "improvements" to the Masich Stadium.

Having been an active user of this wonderful facility since 1990 and watched many events there as well, including the Seniors Games in 2002 and 2008, when we only heard comments like "the best ever" confirmed again that this facility has lived up to its original design features.

This facility should be left as is, with only improvements to the infield grass surface (the City knows how to grow grass and maintain it, on playing fields, just look at the soccer fields complex) and replace the rubberized track surface, which is overdue by now.

The proposed introduction of an artificial turf field, necessitating the relocation of the throwing events and the removal of the south berm, would destroy the whole ambiance of this track and field facility.

If an artificial turf field is desirable in the community, there are at least two locations that would seem more suitable: in the PGSS Fields, just south of the stadium, or at Duchess Park .

If further consultation is required it may be desirable to talk to the original designer of the facility: Ron Davies, of Arena Sports & Recreation and of course Tom Masich, who has been involved since day one.
