Make today an important day in your life

As each of us continue, in life's amazing journey, one day roles into the next. Today might be one of those everyday days that quickly fade into our memories. Or today might be a day that you will remember for the rest of your life.

As each of us continue, in life's amazing journey, one day roles into the next.

Today might be one of those everyday days that quickly fade into our memories. Or today might be a day that you will remember for the rest of your life. There is no way of really knowing. Moment by moment-we just have to watch the day unfold.

Today is the 26th anniversary of the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger. On Jan. 28, 1986 seven astronauts were strapped down and excitedly anticipating one of the best days in their lives. Everything had been thoroughly rehearsed and every contingency had been meticulously accounted for as they counted down to blast off. And then after only 73 seconds in flight everything changed. The event was shown live on CNN and it shocked and grieved the entire world.

Prior to lift off, there had been some concerns expressed about the safety of the shuttle. But those issues had been minimized by those in charge and the green light was given to launch. Each person on that shuttle started that day unaware that their lives would end so quickly. Each person had jobs to do and goals to achieve and in less than two minutes, each person with all there hopes and plans came to an unexpected end.

In time, for most of us, even these major events become a faded recollection- but for the loved ones, of those who were lost, it is still a vivid and painful memory.

I believe that none of us will live our lives well- if we are fearfully dreading all that might happen as we face the day set before us. Neither can we live our lives well, if we are oblivious to the real dangers that befall the lives of people every day.

What I think is needed is to heed what the good book says:

In the book of Philippians 4:6-7, Paul declares: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Let God, who knows the number of your days, guide you and protect you as you continue to learn to trust Him. Acknowledge Him in all your ways and watch Him make your path straight.

I think that George Santayana was mostly right when he said: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it". His valid point should be considered as we plan our days. But, more importantly, we should heed Jesus' words in John 8 when He says "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

Make today an important day in your life. Make it the day you put your trust in Him.
