Love doesn't get old

Seniors' Scene

Valentine's Day is this Friday, February 14th. Valentine's Day is your chance to tell or show that special someone in your life that you care. In fact you don't even have to wait for Valentine's Day - we should all be doing this on a daily basis. Here is what happened to one fellow: For some magical reason this man was put under a spell and he was told that he would only be able to speak one word per year. If he saved his word, the following year he would be able to speak two words and so on and so on. He decided to wait for three years so that he could tell his wife that he loved her. Then he changed his mind and decided to wait for four years so that he could say, "Sweetheart, I love you". Finally the fourth year came to a close and he was ready for the big day. He fixed his wife some breakfast and said, "Sweetheart, I love you." His wife looked up and said, "Pardon me, what did you say?"

The Hart Pioneer Centre, 6986 Hart Hwy is having a special Valentine's Day Tea for all ages on Wednesday, February 12th from 1 to 3 pm. There will be special decorations, tea, sandwiches, dessert and entertainment: All of this for $5.00 per person.

The Spruce Capital Senior's Recreation Centre, 3701 Rainbow Drive is having a special Valentine's pancake breakfast on Saturday, February 15th, from 9 to 11 am at $6.00 per person or $11.00 per couple.

The China Sail Family Restaurant has been in business in Prince George close to 40 years. The restaurant started out in College Heights in 1975 next to the hardware store on McGill Crescent. In 1988 a fire destroyed the restaurant and the family moved the business to a new location at First and Tabor. The business quickly out grew that location and in 1992 they moved the business to their current location at Fifth and Tabor.

This past weekend 52 BC Tel and TELUS retirees and their partners met at the China Sail Family Restaurant to enjoy a great meal and to catch up on the latest news about one another. Everyone had a great visit and many made it known that they gave up the chance to watch the Super Bowl in order to attend the gathering of their former team mates. Everyone agreed that this should become a semi annual event.

Those that attended the dinner were: Colin and Isabel Blair, Glenda Brommeland, Bill and Jan Burt, Jerry and Diane Caswell, Vivian Charchuck, Pat Collicutt, Mike and Wendy Dale, John and Iris Frenkel, Jeanne Fujikawa, Diane Girard, John and Gayle Hebb, Bill and Charlotte Lindsay, Carol and Bruce Lloyd, Laine McKenzie, Mary and Ab McQuillan (from Quesnel), Bob and Linda Miscovitch, Lino and Kathy Nadalin, Cheryl and Chris Purves, Cecile Podolski, Donna and Bob Roach, Fern and Grant Roberts, Ken Royston and Alannah Shandler, Ralph Schemenauer, Susan Adair, Gerald and Ellen (Stewart) Schmode, Barry and Judy Smith, Jo-Anne Stainton, Janice Taylor, Joe Anderson, Carole Dyck, George Thorne, Pete Turyk, Betty Woodford, and Bert and Roberta Wyman.

Those that expressed regrets about not being able to attend were: Bill Collier, Jean Brien, Lorri Kidd, Tony Ciolfitto, Marie Douglas, Don Grantham, Sharon Husberg, Doris Jensen, Wally Keifer, Neil King, Mary Kirby, Jim and Pauline Lafrentz, Gail Lee, Brian Lewis, Rob McMullen, Dawn Quinn, Stan Schellenberg, Ken Stahl, Karen Wall, Barry Williams, and Joy Wikjord.

All of these seniors happen to be very active volunteers here in Prince George for many causes and in one way or another. They are all true to the TELUS motto: "We give where we live."
