Prince George is a great place to live.
Friendly people, outdoor activities, art community, affordable.
I have lived here 43 years. For work and other activities, I do a lot of driving about the city. There is a disturbing trend where people seem adverse to cleaning up after themselves and disposing of garbage properly.
Around the city in certain areas, driving the highway in and out of the city and entrances and exits on to major thoroughfares, there is a lot of litter lying along the roadsides.
For first time visitors and those traveling through, this is not a very good impression of the city. When you go for a job interview you look your best. This attitude also applies here.
Some possible suggestions:
1. Teach your children from a young age to take pride in their surroundings and pick up after themselves. I saw a young girl on the local T.V. who picks up garbage on her walks with her mom.
2. Increase the number of garbage receptacles around the city and enforce fines for littering.
3. Those in society who must do so have many hours of community service requirements. Could this not be part of the program?
4. Encourage all business owners to assign on a rotational basis employees to walk their perimeter and pick up litter on a daily basis.
5. Have good earth care/litter pick-up and other stewardship taught in school.
Earth Day was April 22 but each day should be Earth Day. Come on P.G.!
With the early spring and people on the move let us all do our part to keep our city and region clean and litter free.
