Lining up for safety

I read with interest the front page headline Curbing the carnage in the May 29 Citizen paper. I totally agree with the whole article but we need to add a forgotten bit. Our city streets are still simply terrible to drive on.

I read with interest the front page headline Curbing the carnage in the May 29 Citizen paper.

I totally agree with the whole article but we need to add a forgotten bit.

Our city streets are still simply terrible to drive on. It seems we now have

accepted this unfortunate fact.

The potholes, the uneven manhole covers and the total absence of linage, including our crosswalks is unacceptable.

In our city it is a very difficult task to find bright white lines indicating crosswalks. Basically they are gone and have been gone for a very long time. Is this not a safety hazard?

As we now drive with eyes down on the road to try to miss the inevitable pot holes and the too-high or too-low manhole covers, we could easily miss the crosswalk signage at the road's edge.

Brightly painted crosswalk lines on the road would be and should be visible to the driver.

I have often seen drivers drive right through crosswalks, oblivious to the fact they are there.

Even the few city streets that were paved last year have no lines. Centre lines, lane lines, left turn and right turn lines and cross walk lines - all missing! We have little white dots showing where the lines should be - let's connect these dots and make our roads safer!

Please Prince George - step up to the plate and fix our streets.
