2015 has proven to be an exciting year for the City of Prince George. The Canada Winter Games opened the year with a bang, and festivities are ongoing to celebrate the city's centenary. The University of Northern British Columbia is working to commemorate its 25th anniversary, and the Prince George Public Library's 60th birthday as a municipal institution is on the horizon.
On Saturday, we invite you to join us at the Bob Harkins Branch between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to commemorate the library's diamond anniversary (complete with cake!)
Over the past 60 years, with help from the City of Prince George, the Regional District of Fraser Fort George and all of our faithful patrons, partners and supporters, the library has grown into the marvelous social space and information resource it is today.
It serves more than 1,100 people each day at our two physical branches, and many more online. Programs and services are provided for lifelong learners of all ages. From Baby Time to eBook help to assistance in finding a great book to read - the library remains the number-one place to go for the answers you need in today's information-rich world.
At the same time as we celebrate our history at the public library, we are looking ahead to the future.
As we work towards a new strategic plan for 2016, we are seeking community input. Over the last month we conducted focus group sessions with stakeholders to listen to the needs of our community partners.
Now, it is your turn to share your vision.
We invite all residents, library users and non-users alike, to provide feedback for the Prince George Public Library.
What do you like about our services and collections? What programs should the library consider? Do you have ideas about improving our facilities and branches?
We want to hear from you. Please take a moment to fill out one of our online surveys (available online at: pgc.cc/1Cemu10) or stop by the Bob Harkins or Nechako branches to fill a survey out in person.
It is your library - have your say!
Shelley Stafford is the chair of the Prince George Public Library Board.
