CNC daycare a great boon to community

I was very saddened to have learned that The CNC Daycare may be closing the doors after 34 years of operation.

I was very saddened to have learned that The CNC Daycare may be closing the doors after 34 years of operation.

I was a student of The Early Childhood Education Program at CNC in 1990 and believed then, as well as now, that having an onsite child care centre for the students to utilize as part of their learning environment is essential.

Having this centre available to the students for their observation of the children and during practicum experiences allows the students to see what they are actually being taught in their classes. Observing children is much more than watching them "just play" as some people believe.

Students are learning in the classroom, through observing the children and day care staff as well as during practicum time how to care for children. Helping to foster a child's development such as physical, social, emotional and cognitive while providing a positive, loving, caring, nurturing and stimulating environment is of great importance in the over all development of a child. This, the goal of an Early Childhood Educator.

I was fortunate to have worked at The CNC Daycare for over 9 years and had such a positive experience in working in such an amazing daycare with amazing staff. I have been in the ECE field now for 24 years and have not had the same experience as I had at CNC.

If the daycare closes it will be a great loss to not only the children and families, ECE students, other programs within the college and community programs that utilizes the daycare but to future children, families and students as well.

I understand that there are budget issues to deal with and I am hoping that somehow this amazing daycare centre can continue to operate.
