to Mayor Shari Green.
Dear Ms. Green, I have been giving you a little slack on what has been happening in the city, and been trying to formulate in my mind that most of the events are just being left over from past administrations, but lets now talk turkey.
If as you said prior to election, open, transparent, responsibility, and using city managers as workers, rather than making council decisions you are now starting on the same old, same old. It was absolutely imperative that the proponents of Coyotes, whether you wanted it or not, was given the opportunity to put forward their arguments to be debated. By not doing so, regardless of the line you folks are using is, The City of Prince George is not open for business, it appears that they do not want old money, and they are not finding new money. The message sent, will, I am sure, be clear to investors.
Personally I could care less if it succeeded, but the opportunity should have been given. From this decision it showed us that the tail is still wagging the dog, that bureaucrats made the decision and it was rubber stamped by council. Too bad, I had hopes that was going to change. Made me think of the puppeteer Shari Lewis, where she was the puppeteer, only possibly reverse roles here. Enough on this, I am now disillusioned.
Lets move on to the roads, and I still think that you inherited this problem, but the taxpayers pay for roads in great amounts. The roads hit the worst road in Canada last year and I am sure they will be outdone this year. The cost damage to vehicles is tremendous, but as yet the city does not pay for that. I am wondering if seeing as we pay dearly for roads, if maybe a class-action suit should be brought forward, naming the city.
I do not think you can use weather conditions etc., as there are many northern communities that do not have the severity of problems. It is a case of prioritizing. Stop spending on special interest groups, obscene severance pay outs, bureaucratic growth, and start spending on infrastructure. No one has for years in a concerted manner.
Shari, take these comments as constructive criticism, take hold of the reins, and see how attitudes will change.
Your continuing friend,
Bill Manders
