I have driven in 15 different countries in all kinds of traffic and in Canada, coast to coast through all provinces, all major cities and all major highways.
I have never heard such an oxymoron as was written in the article, "Merging onto the road," in the Prince George Citizen on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
When it came to my attention, I was appalled. For an RCMP officer to make such a stupid statement concerning the use of merge and yield signs is beyond my comprehension.
In this article, Constable Leslie Smith advised drivers to "look over shoulder to keep your eye on the oncoming traffic," the constable should have said to keep your eye on the traffic flow.
The merge sign means that a vehicle blends into the traffic flow and is not a stop sign.
A yield sign is like a stop sign if it is not safe to enter the flow of traffic.
By her statement, she has created a situation for the possibility of a rear end collision in the merge lane.
Getting your knickers in a twist when a vehicle merges in front of your vehicle, counts for poor driving skills and a poor attitude.
In the drivers manual it warns in red letters do not stop in merge and acceleration lane.
