Kids' demonstration improper

Canada's left wing, of which The Citizen has long been a member, must be truly desperate to make something stick to the Harper government when they take kids out of class to demonstrate against policies their adult cheerleaders don't like.

Canada's left wing, of which The Citizen has long been a member, must be truly desperate to make something stick to the Harper government when they take kids out of class to demonstrate against policies their adult cheerleaders don't like.

Talk about a children's crusade.

Classroom discussions about politics are an important part of education but that is a long way from getting kids involved in partisan political events.

No political party, union or institution should be using school kids on school time as political pawns.

As a former teacher, this event raises a lot of questions. I would love to know how many kids took part willingly and how many were pressured into taking part?

Moreover, what happened to those kids who refused to take part or whose parents would not let them go?

Will they lose marks for missing a "lesson"? And how will we know? What about teacher bias in the future given the front page "success" of this event?

The fact that The Citizen's editorial supports this action is a new low in its left-wing editorial policy.

An endless parade of left-wing cartoons is easy to ignore but enlisting school children to do partisan political dirty work is not.

This is not the proper way to educate our children about political matters.
