Just do what you can

This is in response to Dean Soiland's letter to the editor about having a horrible experience in the gym.

As the mother of two personal trainers I am very sad to hear that Dean was treated so badly at the gym. That is not the purpose of personal trainers. Their job is to meet people where they are at and help them to meet their goals and develop a healthy lifestyle plan which of course includes exercise.

My personal trainer sons would love nothing more than for me to go to the gym also, but I dislike the loud music so often at gyms and so I do my own workout at home.

So what I am saying to Dean is not to let this bad experience stop you from pursuing a healthy lifestyle.

There are many options such as walking or working out at home. A lot of the people who are in the gym now and who are fit and healthy had to start somewhere and they may not have all been so fit when they began.

It is a lifetime journey of healthy choices. I encourage every one of us to do something even if it is only walking the dog around the block or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Just do what you can.

Don't let anyone discourage you.
