Re: Site C job fair draws hundreds.

Were you possibly one of the few it seems that were unaware of the recent Site C job fair event and therefore unable to be counted in attendance? Or counted yourself out upon seeing the rather continual line of 250 people for the entire several hour period? Don't worry, you did not miss anything.

Thankfully while standing waiting with my fellow wolves I did learn a thing or two.

Firstly unemployment can hit any one at any age, following any career path.

Secondly we all have people depending on the funds we bring into our homes. None of us wanted to be standing in an endless line being told it was going to take another three hours to hand in that single resume that our families count on. We would rather be working and providing.

In my years of under employment, I attended a few job fairs in this town in the hopes of achieving better.

In those cases I was able to draft cover letters and resumes to showcase skills based on who company-wise would be in attendance. Also at the end I knew I had personally made a positive memorable connection with one employer.

In the end my resume was piled in with those who stood with me through those hours, equal in need but vastly different in profession.

Needless to say I left with no more information than I had arrived with. The two cards I was given, one for the Labour Relations Manager, and the other for BC Hydro, still neglect to answer outstanding questions; that not even the people I spoke to for mere seconds, after hours of waiting, could provide an answer for.

So today, the day after, I am still vaguely applying to a company who cannot simply inform their applicants of even a rotational schedule of expected work.

I personally believe that this job fair was poorly executed and a massive waste of time for every one involved, considering it was their third attempt out of the six planned.

So that you don't have to waste your day in future events you can email resumes to Tammy Temple, Labour Relations Manager ([email protected]), BC Hydro, www.sitecproject.com ([email protected]) because three hours was not worth the wait.
