Joan' dismissal is a terrible mistreatment of a dedicated professional. To fire someone on such a flimsy technical/academic basis ignores all logic.
I taught with Joan at Springwood school, and marvelled at her ability to relate to and motivate kids of all ages particularly the younger students who felt the glow of her warmth and enthusiasm. The little ones were totally transfixed as they sat on the floor around her at story time.
Joan made learning fun and exciting and always went the extra yard to engage students in activities beyond the classroom.
She was self-motivated and showed initiative in getting kids involved in the Speech Arts Festival, plays for the whole school and little extras in her classroom that showed her total care and commitment.
This decision needs to be reversed in the interests of fairness to all concerned, kids and teacher.
