Last week, I saw the entire mature forest of a large lot in the Hart Highlands being clear-cut. In my opinion, this lessens the appeal of my neighbourhood.
To those who dislike shade, do not want to be neighbours with birds, squirrels and bats, or are against photosynthesis occurring near them, there are plenty of treeless properties.
So, if you do not want a yard with trees, do not buy a property with trees.
If you have trees that have matured over time, enjoy them.
City council, in my opinion, should adopt a strategy for promoting and enforcing the protection of mature trees in the city.
Mature native tree species (specifically fir, spruce, pine, and birch) in residential neighborhoods throughout Prince George should be put under a protected umbrella, which would make it a civic offense to cut one down with certain exceptions such as the tree is dying or a safety threat.
