I am writing this letter in response to the writer of "Deadbeat Dads."
This letter really hit home for me as I am a father who pays his child support on time every month and still have issues with being able to visit my child on a regular basis.
I think you need to do your research before writing a comment like the one you wrote in Tuesday's paper suggesting that non-payment of child support should be punished by withholding their children from them.
Although I am not familiar with your situation, I can tell you that your suggestion of withholding children from their fathers as punishment for not paying child support, is not only irrational, it is harmful to the child.
It is not the parent's right to visitation with the child, it is the child's right to visitation of the parent. Cutting a parent out of a child's life for any reason is only going to cause problems for the child later on in life, not the parent.
If you are having issues with getting the father to pay his child support, there are many other avenues that you can take, such as contacting family maintenance for instance.
Do your research, there is always a way to go through a divorce or separation without punishing the children.
And before you go making any rash decisions, think about how they will affect the children.
