The Prince George Italian Club at 533 Dominion St. has been an active club since 1962.
President Anna Sciara says, "Our club has always been run by the members. We are a non-profit association and we rely on volunteers to keep our club going. When the club first started we used to meet at the homes of our members. We had fun and we kept our culture alive. We kept the Italian people together and we helped one another. The membership quickly shot up to over 100. As the years went by we purchased the building on the corner of Dominion and 5th Ave. Our membership is now at about 80 and we are still keeping the Italian culture alive and we still try to work together and help one another as well as the community. Our fund raised dollars have been donated locally to help the Hospice House, the Heart and Stoke Foundation, Cancer and the Variety Telethon."
I asked Anna what she felt were the biggest accomplishments of the Italian Club and she said, "We have aged and we are now a smaller group with the work load spread over fewer people. We are proud of the fact that we managed the club well; stayed out of debt and today the club is still there for the Italians of Prince George. We are a great club with a friendly atmosphere. We need volunteers and especially younger volunteers to help take the work load off the shoulders of the older members."
Anna said, "I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members and volunteers of the Prince George Italian Club who have enabled us to continue to be an active part of this community over these past 50 years."
The club house is open to everyone and the hall is available to rent by phoning Anna at 250-563-1289.
