Re: Duchess Park redevelopment a step in the right direction
Following the completion of a number of the improvements to the old Duchess Park secondary school site, I would like to applaud the City of Prince George for their foresight and dedication to improving the area. Having attended Duchess Park as a student from 1998 to 2003, I can attest to the recent improvement of the neighbourhood, as well as the bowl area in general. Of particular note is the addition of downtown recreational facilities brought about from implementation of the plan, including a better playing field, new tennis courts, off-leash dog area and the mountain bike skills park. Being part of the Prince George biking community, I am very pleased by the inclusion of the skills park/pumptrack. That the city is supportive of such projects give its residents something to be proud of (the fact which has been mentioned several times by passersby). I would like to thank the planners and city employees that advocated for the facilities, as well as the Prince George Cycling Club for approaching the city. Hopefully the success of the facilities (already evident) will prompt the city to invest further, and more strongly, in outdoor recreational opportunities.
