Inane and useless

Someone please help me before I go off the deep end. Why have the hockey play-by-play announcers gotten so bad? The regular season NHL announcing is slowly deteriorating especially TSN. Now the Olympic play-by-play is the worst ever.

Someone please help me before I go off the deep end. Why have the hockey play-by-play announcers gotten so bad? The regular season NHL announcing is slowly deteriorating especially TSN. Now the Olympic play-by-play is the worst ever. We now have two colour commentators both trying to outdo the other with inane and useless trivia which has nothing to do with the game which is being played, such as "his great, great grandfather use to play for the medieval ducks," or "back in 2007 he had two back-to-back two goal games." Before the helmets and masks you could at least identify who the players were. Some now are still recognizable, but it is the job of the play-by-play announcer to keep you up to date as to who is on the ice; or at least so I thought. Now you have the Olympics with lots of players you have never seen before and NHLers in different roles and still we get the on going drivel. You are lucky if half of the game is called. We now are treated to what seems like Bob and Doug Mackenzie, watching a game in their rec room, trying to convince the other that they are Mr. Hockey. It's sad, truly sad, especially when you were brought up with Danny Gallivan, who could make even the most mundane hockey game exciting.
